Why?

Nearly half of the world’s population, an estimated 3 billion people, use open fire to cook. This practice results the premature death of 1.6 million people annually through building fires, poor ventilation and cooking accidents.

Join Group14 in exploring the health risks and environmental impacts associated with these cooking practices during our cook stove competition. Our aim is to raise awareness, increase education, and promote collaboration between the industry and community in working towards a better solution.

How Can You Participate?

Group14 is inviting stove designers to participate in a cook off. Stove designs will be evaluated based on various criteria including their thermal efficiency, environmental impact of their fuel source, ventilation, cost, capability of local manufacture, portability, robustness, embodied energy and creativity.

As a part of the competition, Group14 will provide an overview of the current implementation of improved cook stoves, opportunities for future development, and the local and global implications of half the world’s cooking practices.

Energy Design Assistance (EDA) Program

Group14 is a consultant for Xcel Energy’s EDA demand-side management program.  Xcel Energy contracts with Group14 to provide comprehensive, customized energy analysis on your new construction or major renovation commercial building project at no cost to you.

If you are an Owner or a member of a design team for a commercial building over 50,000 SF early in the design process in Colorado, contact us to see how you can take advantage of this program. The program is divided into two service paths: ‘Basic’ and ‘Enhanced’.   Both paths include:

• Free customized energy modeling analysis
• $400/ kW and $7/ dekatherm incentive to the Owner for energy efficiency achieved
• $8,000 – $12,000 reimbursement to the design team for participating in the program

Re-commissioning Program

Group 14 can help you participate in Xcel Energy’s Re-Commissioning Program. The program reduces your energy costs by improving the efficiency of your building’s existing mechanical systems and controls with low or no-cost adjustments.  Buildings over 50,000 SF qualify, and the program pays for 75% of the cost of the re-commissioning study (not to exceed $25,000).  The implementation rebate includes $400/kW or $0.08/kWh (whichever is greater) and an additional $7/dekatherm for natural gas sales customers.

Lighting Efficiency Redesign Study Program

Existing buildings have a huge potential for lighting energy savings. Group14 is an approved provider for the Redesign program, and can perform a full audit of your building’s lighting systems and offer cost-effective, efficiency solutions.  Xcel Energy will rebate up to 75% of the study cost (up to $25,000).   A redesign study will:

• Help you build a business case for a lighting retrofit
• Identify energy savings, cost estimates, and rebate amounts for each measure
• Receive cash rebates (up to $400/kW saved) that cover up to half of the implementation costs

Lighting Efficiency Rebate Program

Xcel Energy offers simple prescriptive rebates for lighting upgrades, including LEDs.  For some newer technologies that are not yet part of this simplified program,  a project can apply to the Custom Efficiency program.  Group14 can assist with the Custom Efficiency Rebate application by providing the lighting calculations and energy savings documentation required.

Self-Direct Custom Efficiency

For customers with a peak demand of 2 MW in any single month and an aggregate annual energy usage of 10 GWhs, Xcel Energy offers rebates on actual project savings of $525/kW or $0.10/kWh.  The type of projects that qualify include:

• Major retrofits and renovations, including lighting and equipment replacement
• New construction (EDA program may be more appropriate)

Customers are responsible for design, engineering, measurement and verification, and reporting of the work. Group14 can work seemlessly with your facilities department to explore if this option is best for you, as well as provide the engineering, M&V work and reporting.
