Del Norte K-12 is a new 120,000 SF K-12 school located in the rural town of Del Norte, Colorado. Group14 provided building energy modeling, EDA and LEED consulting for the new school, which is on track to achieve LEED Silver Certification.
The school consists of two stories with surface parking, sports fields, a water retention pond, sports gym, and classroom spaces for 447 students and 78 faculty employees. The building includes separate wings and entrances for elementary, community events and secondary education.
Energy saving measures included an efficient envelope design featuring continuous air barriers, low lighting power densities using LED fixtures, and highly efficient HVAC systems such as VAV air handling units with hot water heat, energy recovery, and evaporative cooling.
Results:
Del Norte K-12 was able to achieve 35% indoor water demand reduction using water efficient flow and flush fixtures, as well as Energy Star compliant commercial kitchen equipment.
Del Norte K-12 also achieved a 40% energy cost savings relative to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 baseline.
