The Carla Madison Recreation Center is located on the corner of Colfax Avenue and Josephine Street in central Denver. The five-level, LEED Gold facility includes swimming pools, a gymnasium, fitness areas, community gathering spaces, classrooms, and outdoor amenities.
Group14 provided LEED consulting, energy modeling, Xcel Energy Design Assistance (EDA) consulting, and fundamental & enhanced commissioning services. Sustainability features include rain gardens to filter runoff from the parking area & building, natural light, and the use of low-emitting building materials.
The rec center was designed to use one-quarter as much energy and one-half as much water as an average building of its size. The recreation center features high-performing heating & cooling systems, efficient lighting, and an advanced pool filtration system.
The state-of the-art community and fitness center is predicted to save 32.2% energy cost savings and received an incentive through its involvement with the Xcel Energy EDA Program.
Using water efficient fixtures and efficient pool design, the recreation center saved over 40% in annual indoor water use over the LEED baseline. The project also reduced its exterior water use by over 58%.
