Group14 provided energy consulting services and commissioning for this RDT maintenance facility that serves new commuter rail trains and cars. The facility has a large high-bay area flanked by offices, conference rooms, and workshops. The entire maintenance area is served by radiant floor heating and dedicated outside air systems.
Group14 optimized the daylighting through skylights in the high bay area, designed for lower ambient light levels that are supplemented by task lighting, and minimized fan energy through low face velocities. The office wing is also being served by a variable refrigerant flow system with a dedicated outdoor air system.
Overall, despite the complexity in design, the building’s systems were constructed to allow for easy-to-use operation while exceeding the client’s expectations and maintaining the budget and schedule.
The overall building achieved a stunning energy savings of 32.3% over the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline and obtained LEED Gold certification.
