Group14 was contracted to implement SkySpark software as a pilot at the Washington Navy Yard to automatically detect operational issues in several buildings, totaling over 350,000 SF. This pilot was conducted in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to assess the potential for expanding monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) to more buildings in the Naval District Washington (NDW) region.

RESULTS:

The MBCx effort quickly and effectively identified numerous energy savings improvements and operating issues. This included air handling units that were not turning off properly on schedule and a variety of airside economizer issues, which were impacting space comfort and operating costs. When compared with the retro-commissioning effort recently completed for the same buildings, the MBCx effort powered by SkySpark identified over 60% more issues and opportunities totaling over $145,000/year in annual cost savings.
